The faults that warm up a back bar
Bottle coolers live in the worst spot in the building: a tight, dusty space under the bar, next to glasswashers and ice machines throwing out heat. These are the faults we get called to most.
Warm drinks on busy nights
If the cooler is fine midweek but warm by Friday evening, it has no recovery left. Every door opening lets cold air out, and every crate of warm stock loaded at 6pm has to be pulled down by a machine that is already struggling. The cause is usually a choked condenser, tired fans or low refrigerant, and all three are fixable.
Noisy fans
A rattle, buzz or grinding from inside or underneath the cooler is a fan motor on its way out. Fans on bottle coolers run long hours in dusty air and wear steadily. The noise is your warning, and a fan swap is a straightforward, inexpensive repair compared with the warm cabinet that follows when the motor stops.
Condenser blocked with dust
Back bars are dust traps, and most bottle coolers draw their air straight across the floor and through the condenser. A matted condenser is the single most common cause of a warm cooler we attend. We clean it properly and show your team how to vacuum the grille, because in a dusty bar it needs doing monthly, not yearly.
Door seals and doors left ajar
Split or hardened seals let warm air in around the clock, and on a busy night sliding and hinged doors get left ajar between serves. The cooler then fights the room all night and never wins. We replace gaskets, adjust or replace hinges and rollers, and check self-closers where they are fitted.
Lights out
A dark fridge sells less. LED strips, tubes, drivers and door switches all fail, and on some coolers the light circuit shares a transformer that takes the whole run down. We relamp and rewire cooler lighting, and check the door switch so the lights behave when the door opens.
What our engineer does on a visit
Most bottle cooler faults are easy to find, because the machines are simple and the failure patterns are familiar.
- Step 01
Temperature check
We measure product and air temperature, read the controller, and ask when the cooler was last fully cold. The pattern over a week tells us a lot.
- Step 02
Condenser and fans
The condenser gets cleaned, both fan sets checked, and the clearances around the cooler confirmed. A cooler boxed into a tight run of bar joinery cannot shed heat.
- Step 03
Seals, doors and lights
Gaskets, hinges, rollers, self-closers and the lighting circuit all get checked while we are in there, because they are cheap fixes that change how the cooler performs.
- Step 04
Repair and advise
You get the fault and the cost before parts are fitted, plus straight advice on loading and cleaning routines so the same fault does not come back next month.

Who we repair bottle coolers for
If your margin is in cold drinks, a warm cooler is a till problem, not just a maintenance one. We repair bottle coolers and drinks fridges for:
- Pubs and bars
- Clubs and late-night venues
- Hotels
- Restaurants
- Off-licences and convenience stores
- Cafés and coffee shops
- Gyms and leisure venues
- Event and function spaces
Back bars are hard on refrigeration
A bottle cooler is designed to breathe, and most bar fit-outs let it do anything but. Coolers get boxed into joinery with no ventilation gap, pushed against walls, and sandwiched between a glasswasher and an ice machine that both pump out heat. The cooler runs constantly, the condenser mats with dust, and the compressor dies young.
Where the fit-out allows, leave the manufacturer's clearance around the cooler, keep the front grille clear of crates and bar mats, and vacuum the condenser grille monthly. We see coolers double their working life in bars that do these three things.
Getting drinks cold and keeping them cold
A bottle cooler is a holding cabinet, not a blast chiller. It is built to keep cold drinks cold, not to pull a warm delivery down during service. Load warm stock early in the day, in rotation, rather than filling the cooler at 6pm on a Friday. Keep the doors shut between serves, and do not overfill past the load line, because the air has to move.
If you do all of that and the drinks are still warm, the cooler itself has a fault, and that is when to call us.

Bottle cooler repair FAQs
The cooler is fine all week but warm on Friday night. Why?
Demand. Busy nights mean constant door openings and warm stock being loaded in, and a cooler with a dirty condenser or a weak fan has no spare capacity to cope. Midweek it gets away with it; Friday it does not. A service and condenser clean usually sorts it, and we will tell you if the cooler is simply undersized for your trade.
Can you repair sliding-door and hinged-door coolers?
Yes, both. Sliding doors need rollers, tracks and seals; hinged doors need hinges, gaskets and sometimes self-closers. Tell us which style you have and roughly how old it is when you call.
How often should the condenser be cleaned?
In a typical dusty back bar, a vacuum of the condenser grille every month keeps on top of it. Bars with heavy dust or fluff from bar mats may need it more often. We can add condenser cleaning to a regular service visit if you would rather we handled it.
Is it worth repairing an old bottle cooler?
Fans, seals, thermostats and lights, almost always yes, because those repairs cost little against a new cooler. A dead compressor on a cabinet that is already rusty and inefficient is where we would talk through replacement instead. You get both figures where that is a real choice.
Do you repair wine coolers and display fridges?
Yes. Glass-door wine cabinets, display merchandisers and upright drinks fridges are the same technology in a smarter box, and we repair them across pubs, hotels, restaurants and shops.
Cooler warm before the weekend?
Call us with the make, the fault and your postcode and we will give you a realistic arrival window, or send the form and we will ring you back.
